Our clients include large cap global mining companies, mining development and exploration companies, junior miners and global metals associations. We have business experience across the complete spectrum of all metals and minerals. The company has a core team of 12 consultants based in London and works with a worldwide network of associate consultants expert in the metals and mining sector.
Alec Campbell, Managing Director
Alec has over 25 years experience of management consultancy and senior marketing and sales positions. He started his consulting career with Urwick Orr & Partners and went on to be an internal adviser to the Milan‐based Pirelli Group in Italy. Alec is G&P’s senior adviser to the global metals sector. He leads Gorham & Partners’ work for the World Gold Council and directed a major project for the UK jewellery industry, commissioned jointly by the DTI and WCG, which reviewed the competitiveness of the UK jewellery sector. He has been strategic adviser to the Orkney Jewellery Group and the International Platinum Association.
Alec worked for the DTC’s CADs and CMD on several projects in the 1980s and 90s – advising on the then new role of Market Controller and leading recruitment programmes to find and select top “decile fmcg” marketing professionals to join the CADs team. He also led the introduction of the financial control function into CADs.
Alec has a degree in Pure Mathematics from St Andrews University and speaks German and Italian fluently.
Krisztina Kalman‐Schueler, Managing Consultant
Krisztina has 10 years of professional experience in consulting, strategy development, business development and operational implementation. She leads Gorham & Partners’ ongoing consulting programme for the jewellery, gold and the diamond sector.
Krisztina’s sector expertise covers the following industries: precious and base metals, automotive and durables manufacturing. At Gorham & Partners she has carried out consulting projects related to value adding strategies and value added measurement for metals associations and mining companies including WGC, ICA, NI, WSA, ICDA and Rio Tinto. She extensively worked for the diamond and gold sectors managing projects analysing the US diamond pipeline, setting up the new diamond market association, measuring the impact of WGC projects with the goal to increase demand.
Prior to G&P she has worked as a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group and St. Gallen Consulting Group and carried out projects for Volkswagen, Bayer and Dresdner Bank. Krisztina’s finance oriented MBA was awarded by the TRIUM International Program (a joint program of NYU Stern Business School, London School of Economics and HEC Paris); she gained her Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Cologne in Germany. Krisztina is fluent in English, German and Hungarian.
Michel Lavite, Principal Consultant
Michel Lavite has spent his career to‐date in the mining and metals sector, primarily with publicly listed corporations, where he occupied several senior management positions. While President of Amax Europe (then the leading molybdenum producer, and a sizeable player in the nickel market), he directed the European sales force of Amax Nickel, coordinated the joint development by Amax and BRGM of a new acid leach process especially suited for laterites, and sat of the boards of Cofremmi and Penamax, then in control of major laterite orebodies in New Caledonia (including Goro, one of the world’s largest laterite projects,which is expected to come on stream later this year). He subsequently spent a few years in Brazil with Caemi‐CVRD, currently in control of Inco, one of the world’s leading nickel producers. Over time he developed a thorough understanding of both technical and marketing issues likely to affect the steel industry ( carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel) and built up substantial experience in the supply chain of ironmaking and steelmaking raw materials. Michel is a registered Mining and Metallurgical Engineer with an M. Sc. from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris and is a Graduate from Insead’s Advanced Management Programme. Having lived most of his business life abroad, Michel has developed a strong adaptability to different countries and cultures, and speaks several languages fluently.
Klairie Gounaridi, Consultant
Klairie is a key member of the G&P metals and mining team, recently performing a central role in a highly analytical and in depth project in the global nickel sector. Her experience comes from working in a business development role for a Greek‐based mining company, as well as in professional marketing and sales positions for the global company, Hilti, in Spain, Liechtenstein and Greece. She has a degree in Business Administration from Athens University and an MBA from Manchester Business School. Klairie is fluent in English, Greek and Spanish.
Khush Nathadwarawala, Consultant
Khush is a consultant at Gorham & Partners with four years of experience of business development and consulting, working on various research, executive search and in‐depth data analysis tasks for international metals associations as well as mining and metals companies. He has worked on various Gorham & Partners search assignments for international organisations. He has expert knowledge of online survey and phone techniques and has designed, implemented and overlooked global surveys. He is fluent in Gujarati and Hindi as well as English. Khush holds an MSc in Management from the Imperial College Business School, London and an honours degree in engineering from Cardiff University.
AnnMarie Turner, Junior Consultant
AnnMarie is a consultant who has joined Gorham & Partners having spent time with the practice in 2005 on a work experience scheme organised between Gorham & Partners and her university. AnnMarie has a first degree in economics from St Lawrence University in New York State; she has recently been working in New Zealand.
Sarah Samuel, Senior Researcher
Sarah is an experienced research consultant with MBA degree specialised in market analysis, forecasting and strategy consulting across a range of industries. She has been involved in the Gorham & Partners analysis of the UK Jewellery Industry on behalf of the DTI, in the De Beers US pipeline analysis and the development of the International Diamond Board. Sarah has an MBA from the Lancaster University.
Patricia Yates, Senior Researcher
Patricia is a full‐time market research specialist. She has a metals sector background having been a buyer of non‐ferrous metals for the General Electric Company in the early part of her career. She subsequently progressed her career as a market researcher exploring and interpreting the air cargo market (for British Airways), the civil aircraft market (British Aerospace) and the packaging sector for Unilever. She is a recognised expert on industrial market research and business information and lectures on marketing and corporate strategy at Kings College London. Patricia has a BA in Economics and Political Science from Trinity College, Dublin.
Colin Knox, Principal Consultant
Colin is a highly experienced strategy and operational consultant. As an advisor to the leaders of many prominent companies, he is uniquely qualified to guide managers through strategic market analysis, program management, value chain analysis, manufacturing improvements and turnaround. Prior to 10 years in high value consulting, he held a number of senior positions in the automotive manufacturing industry, leading business development and value chain improvement project. Also, lean manufacturing, cost reduction, performance improvement and due diligence assignments. He has worked extensively in USA, Europe and Asia where he has experienced the best of business and industrial practices.
